Using JSTOR Essential: JSTOR Tutorial for Students

The Merced College Library now subscribes to JSTOR Essential, a version of JSTOR which provides access to content from over 680 journals in the humanities and social sciences.

Using JSTOR Essential Tutorial

  • access JSTOR Essential
  • locate the Advanced Search interface
  • enter search terms
  • narrow results by content type, publication date, and subject
  • use database tools to cite, email, download, and save items

The tutorial is also available as an assignment with instructions in Canvas. Students receive a PDF certificate of completion that shows their name and score as a percentage. The assignment submission is set to uploading a PDF file. Students can also repeat tutorials, so they have unlimited opportunities to receive full points. Simply add a point value and a rubric. The library faculty recommend that tutorials be assigned for a grade.
