Film Reviews

There are different types of film reviews, so where you look depends on the type needed for your assignment.

Critical film reviews (film criticism)

  • scholarly examinations of a film and can be found in journals
  • find them in library databases or in open access journals found via the open web
  • Example: "Affect, Cruelty, and the Engagement of Visual Intimacy"
    • Abstract: The article examines how the link between cruelty and visual intimacy in cultural depictions provide a model for social and political habituation. The author discusses visual intimacy in the films "Beatriz at Dinner" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri." According to author, intimacy is a recognizable feature of affect which is conveyed in private as well as public ways.

Movie reviews

The University of Vermont Libraries' Film and Television guide has a very good explanation.
