Information Literacy

What is Information Literacy?

"Information literacy is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning" (ACRL, 2016).

About the Framework

The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) provides guidelines for information literacy instruction and other library services and practices. The ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (2016) is composed of six interrelated information literacy frames (major concepts). Each concept is associated with knowledge practices and dispositions.

The Merced College Library faculty use the Framework to inform teaching practices and develop instructional activities.
