Finding Chapters in Ebooks

Explore a Topic with Reference Sources

  • Encyclopedias, manuals and dictionaries, reference sources provide background or historical information, identify important theories, provide vital definitions of key concepts, and citations of important authors in the field. 
  • Reference sources are anthologies: typically there are editors who pull together expert academics to authors brief, summative articles.
  • Search Table of Contents or the Index to locate the page, volume or chapter you need. 
  • Select the Chapter to download a PDF file, email or print a chapter, article or page.

Citing Encyclopedia Entries

  • Some encyclopedia entries have individual authors, and some don't; this impacts the way you cite an encyclopedia entry.
  • If an entry has an author, you can usually find their name either at the beginning or very end of the entry.
  • Encyclopedias are usually compiled into a book or several volumes by an editor or editors.
