Preference is for materials written by Black authors and those that highlight the contributions of Black Americans to the nation. The library has many books related to American slavery, the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the Civil Rights era of the 1960s. While we have included some slave narratives, biographies of civil rights activists, and materials related to race relations, this is not the sole focus of the guide.
