  • Topic Choice #1: Explore and explain how the Wonder Woman comics can be viewed as World War II propaganda. Explain how the comic reinforces American ideals present during the World War II era. What was the comic trying to influence Americans to do, think, or feel during the World War II time period? Some areas of focus can include how some villains were portrayed (what country did they come from and how were they depicted? What types of ideals does Wonder Woman try to protect? What message does the comic suggest about war bonds and the armed forces?  What roles were women expected to take during this war? Support the topic with your own reasoning and examples and reliable outside sources. It may help to center your essay on three to four ways the Wonder Woman comic book helps promote the U.S. war effort.
  • Topic Choice #2: Explore and explain the presence of mythology present in the Wonder Woman comics. What aspects of Greek or Roman mythology are included in the comic? Why do you think Marston includes this Greek/Roman mythological background for Wonder Woman? What does it help explain about Wonder Woman, or how does it help further the plot? Support the topic with your own reasoning and examples and reliable outside sources. It may help to center your essay on three to four instances or mythological references in Wonder Woman.
  • Topic Choice #3: Explore and explain the religious or spiritual nature (or lack of it) in the Wonder Woman comics. Putting aside the obvious references to Greek/Roman mythology, are any other belief systems or references present in the comic? Are there any Biblical or spiritual references? Critics have often argued that Superman and Batman comics contain modern day religious elements. Is the same true for the Wonder Woman comics? Why or why not? If there is no clear religion, what about spiritualism? Does spiritualism exist in the comics, and if so, in what aspects? Support the topic with your own reasoning and examples and reliable outside sources. It may help to center your essay on three to four examples of religion or spiritualism present in Wonder Woman.
