Merced County Office of Education Programs

The Special Education Department is one of the six major departments of the Merced County Office of Education. Its mission is to provide services to the more than 5,000 students in the county who have disabilities. Students receive a wide variety of services. Their disabilities include: specific learning disabilities, visual and hearing impairments, communication disorders, orthopedic disabilities, mental retardation, autism, and serious emotional disturbance.

The Special Education Department supports the mission of MCOE to provide leadership to insure every student a success by:

  • maximizing all community, educational, business, and family resources;
  • developing communication, cooperation, and collaboration;
  • capitalizing on cultural diversity, and
  • fostering flexibility in addressing the diverse human and ever-changing technological needs.
